Makabayan, ‘genuine opposition’ in 2025 polls

“Philippines is now at crossroads…are we going to go the way of misfortune or we’ll tread the right way towards new society?” Makabayan has offered itself to be “genuine opposition” in next year’s midterm polls, saying country’s two leading political leaders now are only after their personal interests.
In statement posted on X, Makabayan noted that Marcos and Duterte do not really care about welfare of Filipinos.
It stressed factions of the leading political figures do nothing but bicker, “unmindful of sufferings of ordinary people.”
Makabayan underscored it is about time for the country to go towards new direction and it is willing to lead the way.
To spearhead these changes, Makabayan would be fielding 12 candidates for senators in next year’s elections.
These candidates, it claimed, do not come from affluent and political families.
“They are not into corruption and defenders of the few…we are proud that they come from sectors of workers, farmers, women, youth, fishermen, indigenous communities and other sectors which have long lost their voice in Congress,” Makabayan said.
