DOH to DHW name change

“Health and education are natural partners in development of our nation… prevention and control of disease as well as promotion of wellness begins in hearts and minds of our children,”renaming Department of Health will be further studied, according to DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa had floated idea of renaming DOH as Department of Health and Wellness.
Domingo said this is “sound idea…anchored on broad understanding of ultimate goal of public health.”
World Health Organization charter, he said, defines health as “ state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely absence of disease or infirmity.”
Herbosa said, “we also want to teach people about health promotion how to maintain your health.”
Meanwhile, DOH welcomed Sen. Sonny Angara’s appointment as education secretary.
