New park turned over to Navotas lgu

“Every year, the agency will set aside funds to support development of parks for each local government unit (LGU),” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes said top officials of MMDA and Navotas City government led opening to the public of 3, 500 square meter Greenzone Park located in the villages of Bangkulasi and North Bay Boulevard North.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Rep. Toby Tiangco personally graced turnover ceremony with MMDA held at the Navotas Greenzone Park.
The park that features plant boxes, paved pathways, landscaping, bollards, lamp posts and an area where families can eat, talk and relax was part of MMDA’s “Adopt-a-Park” project.
The MMDA chief and the city chief executive have agreed to develop more parks for residents to enjoy.
The Greenzone Park used to be an abandoned area where residents throw their garbage while others used the place for their fighting cocks.
The mayor proposed to Artes to help them install free Wi-Fi in the area for the full satisfaction of park goers.
He and the Navotas lawmaker were gratified by the initiatives of MMDA to set aside funds to redevelop open areas into parks. They appealed to the residents to take care of park and maintain its cleanliness.
Under Adopt-a-Park project which started last year, LGU shall propose location, design, and cost estimate while MMDA sets criteria for site selection, provides funding and implements construction.
