DPWH Strengthens Flood Protection in Floridablanca, Pampanga

By Nidz Godino

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed a flood control project along Porac River to protect the nearby low-lying areas in Floridablanca, Pampanga against flooding during heavy rains.

The newly-built 171.3-lineal meter revetment wall along the Paguiruan Section of Porac River in Floridablanca town was constructed by the DPWH Pampanga Second District Engineering Office (DEO).

Citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the revetment wall in the river section connects to flood mitigation structures previously constructed in 2019 and 2022.

Secretary Bonoan further explained that the entire agricultural town of Floridablanca, which is also the second largest rice producer in Pampanga, has been identified as one of the flood-prone areas in the province making the continuous provision flood control structures a long-term solution in reducing damages in both residential zones and farmlands of the town.

The project was completed in the amount of P19.59 million with funding sourced from the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
