“In the event that warrant of arrest is issued, there will definitely be tracker teams to look for them…so far now, we are just monitoring…we are just validating information where they are,” Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, confirmed manhunt is about to be launched for alleged mastermind in the murder of radio broadcaster last month as PNP has put in place tracker teams that will conduct search once court issues arrest warrant. Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) former director general Gerald Bantag has been tagged as brain behind killing of Percival Mabasa, popularly known as Percy Lapid, in Las Pinas last October 3.
Bantag and his deputy Ricardo Zulueta are also accused in the murder of Cristito “Jun” Villamor, supposed middleman, who hired Joel Escorial to kill Lapid. Escorial later surrendered to authorities.
Azurin said PNP have been monitoring whereabouts of the two suspects who allegedly ordered hit on Mabasa over his alleged expose on the ill-gotten wealth of Bantag.
Villamor wound up dead on the day Escorial was presented to media. He was allegedly suffocated to death by his fellow gang members at New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) as part of cover-up.
Both Bantag and Zulueta are facing two counts of murder.
Azurin said manhunt is still on for the other three suspects identified by Escorial in the murder.
They are Israel and Edmon Dimaculangan and a certain Orlando.
