Iwahig inmate tags BuCor security officer in  Lapid slay

By J.Lo

“Meron tayong hawak na mga sworn statement na sinasabing kapag ang PDL ay kausap si Zulueta lagi niyang pinapatungkulan itong either si tanda or itaas which can only refer to Bantag,” Atty. Eugene Javier of NBI-NCR said inmate who was flown in from Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan has identified  Bureau of Corrections officer as the person who told him about the plan to kill broadcaster Percy Lapid. Denver Mayores said in  sworn statement it was Senior Superintendent Ricardo Zulueta who asked him to find  person who would kill Lapid. Zulueta was among those who were  subjects of criminal complaints filed before Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with deaths of Lapid and an alleged middleman in the slay plot, New Bilibid Prison inmate Cristito Villamor Palaña or Jun Villamor.

Last September 2022, Zulueta called him, saying that “pare, may trabaho.”

He said this meant there was an order to kill someone.

When he asked who was going to be killed, Zulueta gave the name Lapid and instructed him to search for him on Facebook.

Mayores said he then communicated to inmate Alvin Labra and relayed the message.

After 12 days, Mayores messaged three dots to Zulueta which meant that he was the one texting.

Zulueta called him and said “Pare Kamusta na…naiinip na ang itaas.”

Asked who was “itaas,” Mayores said it was Bantag.

Mayores said they all know that Zulueta is referring to Bantag as “itaas,” adding that he was his close aid.

He said he threw away the SIM card that he used to communicate with Zulueta to avoid getting tracked down.

The person who deposited money to the account of self confessed gunman Joel Escorial has also given  sworn statement to the NBI.

Based on the affidavit of “Kylie,” Labra called him on October 4, 2022 around 10 in the morning and asked that P350,000 be deposited in a bank account.

Kylie then deposited P300,000 to Escorial’s bank account.

This matched in the passbook of Escorial that the money was deposited on the same date.

Labra then called Kylie on October 7 at 1 in the afternoon to deposit another P50,000  to Escorial’s bank account. It also matched in the electronic transaction of Escorial.

Kylie was supplier of the inmates’ basketball uniforms and had direct contact with  officers in  BuCor.

The authorities “practically” solved the killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid in 17 days but President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. said  investigation into the crime should continue.

President  Marcos made remark in an interview with reporters on the presidential flight to Cambodia where he would attend  ASEAN Summit.

Asked if someone more powerful than suspended Bantag was behind Lapid’s death, President Marcos said, “again, as I said, investigation is not yet over so we cannot say we know everything about the case yet.”

“I don’t want to make these declarations until we know for a fact…so let  investigation continue,” President Marcos said.

President Marcos said both Philippine National Police and  National Bureau of Investigation had done good job,

“By the way, I’d like to remind everybody this case… was practically solved in 17 days…okay…so I think we can say investigating bodies have done a good job, they’ll keep doing  good job until we come to the actual final, conclusion of this investigation ” the President  said.

Asked if it bothered him that Bantag was linked to the crime, FMJ said, “of course, that’s terrible I think we’ve gotten most of those who are involved.”

FMJ stressed two or three have gone into hiding, including potential witnesses.

“But we’ll just keep going until we’re satisfied…right now, because we haven’t spoken to all of  named suspects, middlemen, masterminds, the investigation hasn’t been closed,” FMJ said.

NBI and PNP have filed murder complaints against Bantag,  Zulueta, and several others for  killing of Lapid and alleged middleman Jun Villamor (Cristito Villamor Palaña), an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

NBI maintained both Bantag and Zulueta were still in the country.

Mabasa has said Bantag was mentioned in Lapid’s online radio program at least three times.

The broadcaster allegedly called out Bantag for having an expensive mansion and cars, which the latter denied.

Confessed gunman Joel Escorial said Bantag got hurt by Lapid’s radio commentary on his house and vehicle and ordered the radio broadcaster’s killing.

Asked if he had specific directives for BuCor officer in charge Gregorio Catapang Jr., FMJ said, “they know their jobs.”

“They don’t need for me to tell, to teach their job…but I said, you look into this… I want to know is how did it come to this, in terms of investigating, alam na nila ‘yung gagawin nila…but we have to look bakit and see what happened here..what went on inside prison… that this happened…we just have to find out more,” FMJ also said.

Lapid was shot dead in Las Piñas City on the night of October 3 just before he was supposed to go on air.
