MM mayors OK motorcycle lane on Commonwealth

“The exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth will depend upon road conditions,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said.Metro Manila Council (MMC) composed of mayors in the National Capital Region approved designation of lane exclusive for motorcycles along Commonwealth Avenue. During meeting mayors agreed in principle to traffic scheme to be enforced by MMDA.
MMC, policy-making body of MMDA, will review some inconsistencies on size of lanes at some portions of Commonwealth Avenue, which is dubbed “killer highway.”
MMDA said outermost lane of Commonwealth Avenue will be assigned solely to motorcycles. The first and second lanes will be for cyclists and public transport vehicles.
The Department of Public Works and Highways and the Quezon City government will install traffic signs along Commonwealth Avenue, from Elliptical Road to Doña Carmen Subdivision, to guide motorists.
MMDA will start enforcing the motorcycle lane policy before end of November.
