Maceda Jr. , Comelec commissioner

By Nidz Godino

THE late Mr. expose’s son Ernesto Maceda Jr. was handpicked by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as commissioner of Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The son of the late Senate president Ernesto Maceda  replaced commissioner George Garcia whose appointment as Comelec chairman has been approved by the Commission on Appointments.

Maceda’s appointment paper was signed by the President on Monday, October 3.

Before his appointment, Maceda was a lecturer at the Ateneo Law School and Master of Laws thesis professor at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Meanwhile, the President reappointed Nelson Celis as commissioner of the poll body.

Celis will continue unexpired term of former commissioner Aimee Torrefranca-Neri, whose appointment was bypassed by CA in June.

Maceda and Celis will serve for a term expiring on Feb. 2, 2029.

President Marcos Jr. has reappointed Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy.

President Marcos administered oath of office to Uy in Malacañang.

Philippine Ambassador to Israel Pedro Laylo Jr. and the officers of the Malacañang Press Corps also took their oath before the president.

Uy was among officials whose appointments were bypassed by CA as Congress adjourned for  five-week recess. Ten other Cabinet members were reappointed by the President.

The DICT chief will prioritize giving internet connectivity to far-flung areas in the country in order for them to access medical services and improve education system.

Uy also served as chairman of the now defunct Commission on Information and Communications Technology during the administration of the late President Benigno Aquino III.
