PH Coast Guard PO3 tops trng sch in US

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel who topped Gunner’s Mate “A” School Class 03-2022 at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia is now looking into specialization of his chosen gun in the near future. PCG, Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) Jean Paul Tolin garnered course final grade of 97.1 percent, besting 16 USCG students, three other PCG personnel and a Lebanese Navy personnel. PO3 Tolin is a Dumaguete native and assigned at the Coast Guard Fleet aboard BRP Gabriela Silang.
Fellow PCG personnel PO3 Mark Decleto, also of the Coast Guard Fleet, and Seaman First Class Dwayne Vinarao, of the National Headquarters Support Group, also completed the course, which ran from July to September 2022.
The Gunner’s Mate “A” school is held at Naval Training Center Great Lakes, Illinois and Yorktown, Virginia for the USCG. In its early years, the school was very hands-on, but it is now primarily conducted through technical educational tools, such as self-study computer-based training (CBT).
Training focuses on operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of naval guns, missile launchers and torpedoes as well as strong emphasis on basic explosives, guidance and tracking systems, small arms, Naval ammunition classification, and safety.
