Slope Protection Projects Ensure Safety of Motorists in Nabas, Aklan
By J.Lo
Two (2) slope protection projects completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now safeguards for motorists traversing a landslide-prone national highway in Nabas, Aklan.
Both projects built along Aklan West Road in Barangay Libertad involves construction of high-tensile mesh wire slope protection with erosion control mats and hydroseeding, making sure that grass growth in the area will not be compromised.
Implemented by DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office, the 3,915-square meter project was built in the amount of P66.1 million, while the other rockfall barrier measures 84.5-meter high and 48.5-meter long, costing P56.7 million.
“DPWH Region 6 will continue to work on more projects that will protect people’s lives and properties through appropriate and necessary engineering intervention,” said DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno.
With the completion of the anti-rockslide projects, locals and visitors traveling along the landslide-prone area are now protected from cascading debris, providing a safer and more convenient access to various establishments and tourist destinations such as Boracay Island
