Sangley Pt. International Airport construction soon to start

“This new airport is the future of the country… hope of the country…the Province is just small player…but if we work together, we can do this for our people,” Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla confirmed province of Cavite has approved construction and development of $11-billion Sangley Point International Airport, which will ease air traffic congestion at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Sangley Airport is expected to have capacity of 80 million passengers yearly, with two runways that can be expanded to four. There will also be 4-kilometer road that serves as “satellite runway” between airport and NAIA. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be operational by 2028, said Cavite local government. Phase 2 expansion will see construction of two-way runway system and the airport facility.
The project is also expected to generate at least 50,000 jobs,
A Consortium of Philippine, European, and South Korean companies, led by SPIA Development Consortium, was given Notice of Award, according to a statement by Cavite provincial government.
The group of Philippine companies comprises SPIA, Cavitex Holdings Inc. and House of Investments Inc., part of the Yuchengco Group of Companies. Other members include MacroAsia Corp. of Lucio Tan, Munich Airport International GmbH, and Ove Arup & Partners Hongkong Ltd.
Samsung C&T Corp., the construction unit of the South Korean-based tech giant Samsung, is also among companies that will lead the project.
The project was initially awarded to Chinese-led consortium back in 2019 before the Province of Cavite canceled it.
