Tanza, Cavite under dengue outbreak

“Dengue cases are now at an outbreak level…we have started taking intensive preventive measures, strengthened advocacy and information dissemination as well as dialogues with barangay leaders to help suppress disease,” Tanza municipal health officer Ruth Punzalan said in post on social media the municipal government of Tanza in Cavite has declared dengue outbreak after number of recorded cases continued to increase. Tanza recorded 207 cases from January to August this year, or almost double compared to 2020 and 2021 with 125 and 109 cases, respectively. Punzalan blamed rapid increase of dengue cases to frequent rains.
She said cases in Tanza could hit 500 before yearend if proper interventions are not undertaken to stop spread of virus.
Residents were advised to keep their environment clean and ensure possible mosquito breeding sites are destroyed.
“We still have four months before year ends…if weekly trend does not change, we will reach over 500 cases…we need your help, together let’s suppress dengue, we are at outbreak level and dengue does not discriminate…children and adults, whatever your gender, we are all at risk of getting bitten by mosquitoes” Punzalan said.
The town of Tanza, composed of 41 barangays, has fourth highest number of dengue cases in Cavite.
