50M Nat’l ID cards by end-2022

By Nidz Godino

“Starting October, we will ramp up, together with the BSP, the card production from around 80,000 a day, we are targeting to increase it to 133,000 a day.” Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)  will ramp up production of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) cards or National ID cards to comply with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to issue 50 million IDs by the end of the year.

Sollesta will also roll out printable and digital versions of the National IDs to achieve  target of 50 million IDs issued by  end of the year.

In his first State of the Nation Address, President Marcos ordered  issuance of 30 million physical cards and 20 million digital PhilSys IDs to achieve ultimate goal of issuing 92 million by the middle of next year.

Sollesta said  printable and digital versions of  National ID will have similar features as  physical cards, such as  unique QR code that can be scanned for authentication.

The printable and digital versions will be issued to those who are yet to receive their physical cards and are still valid proof of one’s identification, according to the PSA official.

He said that to date 71 million Filipinos have registered to  PhilSys, in which their demographic and biometrics information are already taken.

Of this number, 17 million cards have been produced of which 15 million were distributed.

“By first semester of 2023, we will deliver 92 million combinations of physical, printable, and mobile IDs,” Sollesta concluded.
