Imposing SRP on chicken, mulled

“Our appeal is that increase in prices should not be too much…they should make it proportionate to increase in the price of gasoline,” Department of Agriculture (DA) spokesman and Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes said DA is studying possibility of imposing a suggested retail price on chicken meat to arrest any undue price hike on the commodity amid skyrocketing fuel prices.
When asked if DA will impose an SRP on chicken meat, Reyes said, “It’s being studied.”
The price of both chicken and pork increased by P10 per kilogram in Manila public markets.
With this, Reyes appealed to market vendors not to increase prices too much.
“We expect prices to increase, but not that much,” he added.
Prices of petroleum products have increased for 11 consecutive weeks since beginning of the year, bringing the year-to-date adjustments for diesel at a net increase of P30.65 per liter, gasoline at P20.35 per liter, and kerosene at P24.90 per liter.
The government released fuel subsidies for both public transportation and agriculture sectors to cushion any inflationary impact of the rising fuel prices.
