Amihan season onset- PAGASA

By J.Lo

“northeast wind flow is expected to gradually become more dominant over Northern Luzon, bringing cold and dry air,” Philippines may expect surges of cold temperatures in the coming months as PAGASA announced onset of northeast monsoon or “Amihan” season.

PAGASA has observed gradual cooling of the surface air temperature over  northeastern part of Luzon.

PAGASA said with ongoing La Niña, northeast monsoon rainfall may be enhanced that could trigger floods, flash floods, and rain-induced landslides over susceptible areas.

It advised public and all concerned government agencies to take precautionary measures to mitigate potential impacts of these events.

Earlier, PAGASA raised yellow warning level in Kalayaan Islands in Palawan due to the troughs of a tropical depression.

Flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslides are possible in mountainous areas.

The islands are predicted to have 7.5 to 15mm rainfall in an hour within the next two hours.

The public and disaster risk reduction management councils are advised to take appropriate actions and monitor current weather conditions.
